![]() It's not an understatement to say I am an Android smartphone fan, as an Android phone has been my faithful companion ever since I started using the HTC Desire in 2010. If you’re interested in the Lumen Series Lunar New Year case for your iPhone 14 device, it’s only available to purchase on Apple’s website or direct from OtterBox. Still, I love the overall aesthetic of the case itself, though I may be a little biased (I’m a rabbit, after all). ![]() ![]() The only thing I would have changed is to make the “gold” more like a gold foil, because it is more like a brownish-yellow to me - not the best color choice. Overall, I think this is a fantastic design from OtterBox. All-in-all, the Lumen Series is a very solid and protective slim offering from OtterBox. The front of the case has a bit of a raised lip to keep the front glass safe if you place it facedown on flat surfaces. It offers precise cutouts for the cameras, charging port, speakers, and mute toggle switch, and the button covers provide a satisfying click when pressed. It has a little flexibility to it, so it’s easy to get it on and off like other OtterBox cases. The Lumen Series is a slim-profile case that’s made with polycarbonate and synthetic rubber materials. But I am the developer of BetterDummy and MonitorControl so I might be entirely impartial about this. There are currently 5 different methods to achieve the brightening effect effect (these can be grouped into 3 distinct categories), I think the one used by BetterDummy is the best so far. BetterDummy's v1.2.0 beta also manipulates pixel brightness values like Lunar but does not use undocumented API calls + it has some other features, like automatic calibration so it works both for XDR displays and any other HDR external displays out there. Vivid and (as a cheaper alternative) BTT does the same and uses overlays - this also works as advertised but has some caveats (mouse cursor and OSD remains unaffected, might mess up screenshots unless the overlay is removed temporarily etc). Lunar was the first to do this and uses a method to manipulate pixel brightness values directly + it uses some undocumented/reverse-engineered API calls. There are a couple of apps that can do this:
